RIAI host one day course on home energy upgrades

The RIAI, in partnership with Joseph Little Architects, has announced the launch of an intensive one day programme on home energy upgrades designed specifically for architectural professionals. The course will be delivered through lectures and workshops.
The RIAI, in partnership with Joseph Little Architects, has announced the launch of an intensive one day programme on home energy upgrades designed specifically for architectural professionals. The course will be delivered through lectures and workshops.

The aim of the course is to give attending architects "practical and focused tips and tools to design better energy-efficient refurbishments, and to be able to prove the value of their design to the client". Continuing professional development points are available for the course.

Topics on the course including "lifetime planning for refurbishments", using the SEAI grant system, using DEAP as a design tool, airtightness in old buildings, thermal performance, condensation and health, ventilation and the suitability of different types of insulation. Attendees should have a basic familiarity with DEAP before attending the course.

Attendees on the course will be receive a financial analysis software tool designed to compare one refurbishment (or new-build project) with another, allowing for construction costs, VAT, fee grants, future inflation and energy cost increases.  Courses will be held on 24 August (Dublin), 13 September (Cork) and 28 September (Dublin).
