Physics and thermal dynamics drive our philosophy and we approach our projects ‘Fabric First’ to deliver buildings that are comfortable, simple and efficient. We work on new-build and existing buildings optimising insulation, fenestration and thermal bridging to produce robust buildings with minimal systems necessary to maintain comfort.
Passionate about sustainability
We are passionate about delivering sustainable buildings that satisfy the occupants’ comfort, with the controls most appropriate for them. We are completely independent of manufacturers, products and installers so can provide objective advice, backed up by a suite of software tools and research. By optimising the insulation and fenestration, and designing for maximum air tightness and minimum thermal bridging, we aim to produce a shell into which simple, robust, minimal systems are added to ensure comfortable conditions can be maintained.
Toby leads the building physics services at Greengauge. He holds an MSc in Theory and Practise of Sustainable Design. He is experienced with a variety of tools for assessing whole-building energy efficiency, component performance and moisture risk assessment, and is a regular guest lecturer at UWE.
Hannah leads the mechanical and electrical design services at Greengauge. After graduating with a first-class honours in Engineering Design and Appropriate Technology (MEng), she gained experience with Halcrow before setting up Greengauge. She brings to bear her deep understanding of fabric performance in designing simple and robust services.
Senior Building Services Engineer
Having moved from large Building Services consultancies, Adam has widened his understanding of building services to low energy buildings and appreciates the benefits of building fabric in achieving this goal. Adam likes to keep things simple when designing M&E systems wherever practical and has interests in Bau Biology.
Emma is an AECB certified Passivhaus Designer, Low Carbon Consultant, Lighting designer, she undertakes the Dynamic Simulation Modelling (IES VE) for Overheating and Part L calculations. Holding a degree in Architecture and Environmental Design (Meng and RIBA Part 1) allows her to take a broad view of building design and low energy optimization.
Building Services Engineer
Degree qualified mechanical engineer and experienced building services engineer. Oscar is a specialist in 3D/BIM software such as ArchiCAD and he makes every effort to integrate and co-ordinate M&E design with other disciplines (architecture, structure, etc.).
