Insulation from agricultural waste

A group of students from the University of Michigan has won the $200,000 MIT Clean Energy grand prize for developing insulation panels from agricultural waste.

The panels are produced from rice husks, and the group says they plan to initially target the product at the refrigeration industry, claiming it can improve the energy efficiency of refrigeration by up to 50 per cent. More information is available here.
