Cork passive window supplier emphasises on-site experience

Cork-based passive house window supplier Amberline Ireland has emphasised the importance of quality workmanship in the installation of low energy and passive house windows. The company was borne out of a firm that previously specialised in low energy building, giving it ample practical experience on site.

“When we found about passive house we quickly decided to go in that direction,” Jacob Ziemkiewicz of Amberline Ireland told Passive House Plus. The company set about educating and training itself in passive house principles, but when it set out to build its first A1 rated house and went looking for passive house standard windows, it could find no local supplier, and decided to learn more about the topic of windows itself.

“Then the recession came to the market and the building industry was in trouble, but we took it as an opportunity to learn about windows,” he said. Jakob said that he and his business partner Kris decided they didn’t want to just go into the window business, they wanted to be the best in the country at it.

“One of the biggest problems in the business is lack of proper installation. When Kris and myself were going to the [Amberline] factory for training in the designing, manufacturing and installation of windows — to the most modern factory in Europe —we knew we are on the best way to achieving our goals. Even now we are obliged to visit the factory at least twice a year for continuous education.”

“We love what we do and every project is very personal for us. We are always trying to keep good relations with the client, architect and main contractor.”

When he spoke to Passive House Plus, Ziemkiewicz had just returned from the Fenesterbrau Frontale trade show in Nuremberg, the largest windows and doors show in Europe, where Amberline was presenting its passive house certified MB 104 aluminium window, and its Sotfline 82 PVS window which is designed for passive buildings and based on a VEKA profile.

“We have widest range of colours available, starting from about 50 veneers, and if that's not enough we can powder coat for any RAL standard colour,” Ziemkiewicz also added.
