I reckon this subject has been touched upon already in some of your forums (admit that I have not read them all through thoroughly due to lack of time)..

interested in looking at economical insulation options for use outside timber frame studs- with rainscreen cladding & vented cavity outside same.

I understand that Gutex is a very good product for this job (breathable etc) - what concerns me here is the cost of this insulation.
Ideally cost would not be an issue but these days it is for most of our clients. I wonder about using EPS as a cavity insulation in this position & have difficulty obtaining information about its breathability. I reckon some of you experts out there will know a lot more than I do on this subject and am interested in your opinions...:)

I have used heroclytt and lime plastered over this successfully but I do not know the insulation value. I will soon be doing an inside with Guetex and after I use it I will know better. It is expensive.

Whilst our wall product is slightly different, it has similarities to TF practice in terms of cavity requirement, etc, and our advice, from BRE, and the DoE, is that we must maintain a clear 50mm cavity, outside the wall panel. We use XPS in our panels (internal to panel), and my 0.02 is that you cannot use it external to TF and meet vent/breathing requirements.
